What causes random strings between parts?

If retraction looks reasonably calibrated but a print still has fine strings between separate areas, what else should be checked?

That's usually moisture or retraction. Dry the filament first, then tune retraction distance and speed, then lower nozzle temp a bit. Ooze from the nozzle during travel moves adds the cobwebs.
