How do you keep supports from welding themselves to the model?

What settings have the biggest effect on making supports removable without destroying the supported surface?

Open the gap: increase the support top Z distance, switch to tree supports, and lower support density. For PETG and PLA+, the real issue is often temperature — too hot and it welds.
